History
Ben and Nancy Aguirre, founders of Greenacre Homes & School, started the non-profit organization in 1975 in Sebastopol, CA. Originally, the agency only provided services to women with developmental disabilities. Greenacres purchased Western Institute, a group home-serving boys, and eventually opened a special education school. The agency expanded over the years and opened a men’s home, a co-ed adult facility, and two more group homes. Eventually, Greenacre Homes & School found it’s role specializing in the care and education of developmentally disabled, severely emotionally disturbed boys and young men. Greenacre Homes & School is able to provide services to people from Social Service, Mental Health, Probation, and Regional Center agencies.
